Inputting P&L Variance Bridge Data

The P&L Variance Bridge Input allows you to make manual adjustments to the P&L Variance calculation results. This is often used to account for items in the variance that cannot be calculated directly but are material enough to require their own classification.

To input P&L Variance Bridge data:

  1. In the Longview Client, open the Consolidate module.
  2. Select Data Collection and expand Reporting Adjustment Input.
  3. Select an entity.

Note: You can select a leaf or consolidation parent entity. If a consolidation parent entity is selected, you will be able to input P&L variance bridge data as well as comments into the associated consolidation adjustment entity. These comments and adjustments will be visible in reports when viewing the associated consolidation adjustment entity.

  4. Select PL Variance Bridge Input.
  5. Select the time period and scenario for the variance bridge input app. The P&L Variance Bridge Input view appears.

Understanding P&L Variance Bridge Data

The P&L Variance Bridge input view displays the P&L Variance Bridge accounts in the down orientation.

For more information on creating P&L Variance Bridge accounts in your system, see “Managing P&L variance bridge accounts” in the Solutions Administrator Guide.

P&L Variance Bridge account details are in the across orientation of the P&L Variance Bridge input view. This consists of the following symbols:

Symbol Description

Base Variance

Contains the base P&L variance

Beginning

Contains the beginning value for the P&L variance bridge

Foreign Exchange Variance

Foreign Exchange Variance

Acquisition

Acquisitions Variance

Disposal

Disposal Variance

Other Variances

These are manual or custom variances. Manual variances are open for input in this view. Custom variances are calculated using a custom calculation method.

For more information on how to set up the P&L variance bridge calculation method, see “P&L variance bridge, Managing P&L variance bridge data views” in the Solutions Administrator Guide.

Note: If you have selected a consolidation parent entity, you will also see an additional column for any manual variance symbols. These symbols will display the manual input total made to any sub-entities in the selected consolidation structure.

Internal Growth

Internal Growth Variance

Net Change

Parent data view that contains the net change of the P&L variance bridge matching the base P&L variance

Ending

Contains the ending value for the P&L variance bridge

Comments

Provides you with the ability to add comments to the P&L variance activity by right-clicking on the cell and selecting Comments.
