Reviewing The Longview Server Manager Interface
The Longview Server Manager interface is composed of the following window elements:
- Menus
- Server Explorer pane
- Properties pane
- Console pane
- User Connections pane
- Contents window
Server Manager window elements
The Server Manager window elements include the following panes:

Server Explorer pane
The Server Explorer pane enables you to view the server in your Longview system and select it to display its properties in the Properties pane. -
Properties pane
The Properties pane displays the particulars of a selected object. This enables you to view the basic settings. -
Console pane
The Console pane displays the status of configured processes running on the server. Process statuses will appear in the Console pane when you stop or start the servers, run a status query, or work with server queues. -
User Connections pane
The User Connections pane displays information about users and their usage of the system, such as a list of currently connected users, or the user connection history. -
Contents window
The Contents window displays the constituent elements of whatever is selected in the Server Explorer pane or was double-clicked in the Contents window itself. Selecting an item in the Contents window causes its properties to display in the Properties pane.
Server Manager Menus
Various Longview Server Manager functions are available in the menu selections. What follows is a brief overview of each menu option.
Note: The icons and menu selections available to you vary depending on your system settings and your current server selection.
File menu
The File menu allows you to access the exit function. Selecting Exit closes the application.
View menu
The View menu allows you to select the panes to view in Longview Server Manager.
Below is a list of View menu options and descriptions:
Menu Option | Description |

Toolbars |
Selecting Toolbars presents a menu of available toolbars. Choosing any of the toolbars displays or hides the selected toolbar. In addition, you can choose Lock the Toolbars, which turns the ability to move toolbars around the interface on and off. |
Component Bar | Select Component Bar to show or hide the Component Bar. |
Status Bar |
Select Status Bar to show or hide the Status Bar. |
Details |
Selecting Details displays the items in the contents window in a text-only list. |
Icons |
Selecting Icons displays the items in the Contents window as icons. |
Refresh |
Selecting Refresh causes the Longview Server Manager panes to be updated and to display current system data. A manual refresh will also detect changes made using line mode and update the system data accordingly. For more information, see Performing Server Tasks Using Longview Administrator Console. |
Console |
Selecting Console causes the Console pane to become active if it is already displayed, or to be displayed if it has been closed. The Console pane displays the status of configured processes running on the server. |
Server Explorer |
Selecting Server Explorer causes the Server Explorer pane to become active if it is already displayed, or to be displayed if it has been closed. The Server Explorer pane enables you to view the server in your Longview system. |
Properties |
Selecting Properties causes the Properties pane to become active if it is already displayed, or to be displayed if it has been closed. The Properties pane displays the basic settings of a selected object. |
User Connections |
Selecting User Connections causes the User Connections pane to become active if it is already displayed, or to be displayed if it has been closed. The User Connections pane enables you to view information about users and to monitor their usage of the system. |
Tools menu
The Tools menu enables you to work with server queues, import data to the server, and export data from the server.

Queue |
Selecting Queue enables you to view the status of the server queues. The queues appear in the console pane. For more information, see Working with Server Queues. |
Recover |
Selecting Recover enables you to do the following:

Import |
Selecting Import enables you to import data into database tables. For more information, see Exporting and Importing Server Data. |
Export |
Selecting Export enables you to export data from database tables. For more information, see Exporting and Importing Server Data. |
Actions menu
The Actions menu enables you to connect to and disconnect from the Longview server, start and stop it, reset error codes on it, and query the status of the configured processes running on it.
Below is a list of Actions menu options and descriptions:
Menu Option | Description |

Connect |
Selecting Connect when the server (to which you are not currently connected) is selected in the Server Explorer pane causes the system to connect to the server. |
Disconnect |
Selecting Disconnect when the server (to which you are currently connected) is selected in the Server Explorer pane causes the system to disconnect from the server. |
Start |
Selecting Start enables you to start the selected server if it is currently stopped. |
Stop |
Selecting Stop enables you to stop the selected server that is currently running, subject to warnings. |
Stop Immediate |
Selecting Stop Immediate stops the selected server at once. You should only use stop immediate when you need to stop the Data Server and users are connected, or there are jobs being processed. If you use stop immediate, you should have a business administrator check the data submission batches to ensure all the data was submitted. |
Reset |
Selecting Reset causes the error codes on the selected server to be reset. This allows users to connect to the server without seeing an error message while you are fixing the error.However, in some cases, you must fix the error before users can continue. |
Status |
Selecting Status causes the status of the configured processes running on the selected server to be displayed in the Console pane. |
Help menu
The Help menu provides you with access to information on how to work in the application, as well as information on the current build of the application.

Longview Server Manager Help |
Selecting Longview Server Manager Help opens another window which presents the online help system. The system has two panes; one on the left shows the Contents tab, which features an expandable and collapsible structure of topics and the subtopics grouped under them. The pane on the left contains other tabs:
The pane on the right is the content pane, where the information contained in the online help system is displayed. This pane changes to display different information based on the choices you make in the other pane. It also features navigation buttons at the top of each topic that display the next and previous topic respectively, and hyperlinks that take you directly to related information when clicked. |
About Longview Server Manager |
Selecting About Longview Server Manager opens an information window that displays the name of the application and its current version. This can be useful in the event that you need to contact Longview on a service matter, or you need to know the client version. To close the window, click OK. |
