Exporting And Importing Dashboards
You can export and import dashboards to migrate specific content from one Longview instance to another. For example, if you develop a new dashboard in your development environment you can migrate the dashboard and its cards to your production environment using this feature.
Exporting dashboards
Exporting dashboards creates a single file containing the information required to import dashboards and cards into another Longview instance.
To export dashboards:
- Select the Administration category in the Dashboard Designer module.
- Click Export Dashboards.
- Select the dashboards and cards you wish to export.
- By default, all dashboards and cards are selected.
- You can quickly clear all dashboard or card selections by clicking Clear.
- You can quickly select all dashboards or cards by clicking Select All.
- Click the Export button in the toolbar.
- Enter or select the file name.
- Click Save.
- If the file already exists you, we be asked to confirm replacing the file.
Note: When exporting dashboards, you should include the cards assigned to the dashboard to ensure the dashboard can be imported to the target system. If you hover your cursor on a dashboard a tooltip will list the cards assigned to that dashboard.
Importing dashboards
Importing dashboards allows to specify the file to import and then select the specific dashboards and/or cards to import.
To import dashboards:
- Select the Administration category in the Dashboard Designer module.
- Click Import Dashboards.
-
In the import file field, specify the file to import and hit Enter. A list of dashboards and cards in the file is displayed.
Note: You can also click Browse to select the file to import.
-
Select the dashboards and cards to import.
Note: You can also click the check box labeled Content to select all dashboards and cards.
Selected dashboards may give display of the following statuses:
- New: indicates that the dashboard will be created in the target system.
- To be replaced: indicates that the dashboard exists in the target system and will be replaced with the one defined in the source file.
- Missing cards: indicates that the dashboards cannot be imported, because they do not exist in the target system, and you have not selected the cards.
Selected cards may display one of the following statuses.
- New: indicates that the card will be created in the target system.
- To be replaced: indicates that the card exists in the target system and will be replaced with the one defined in the source file.
- Click the Start Import button in the toolbar when you are ready to import dashboards and cards. Each item imported will show a status of completed, while any items not selected will show a status of ignored.
- If any item failed to import it will show a status of Import Failed with the reason for the failure. A failure could occur if a dashboard was being imported without its cards, because they already existed and one of the cards was deleted prior to you clicking the Start Import button.
- If you wish to import another file:
- Click the Rest button in the toolbar.
- Repeat starting at step 3.
