Maintaining Currencies
The Currency dimension contains all currency symbols required to store translation rates, in addition to all functional and reporting currency values.
Currencies in Longview Tax use the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) naming convention. Translated currencies are a combination of the target currency and the source currency. For example, the currency symbol for translated Swiss Francs from Euro is CHFEUR. Total Swiss Francs are found in TCHF, which is a combination of CHF and all currencies translated to Swiss Francs.
Note: Currency translation applies only to Tax Provision.
This dimension also contains the translation rate symbols. The naming convention is similar except that the symbol name is prefixed with a “T”. For example, the translation rate for Swiss Francs from Euro is TCHFEUR.
You can use the Entities editor to specify a functional currency to use for an entity.

The following table lists root symbols in the Currency dimension:

Understanding currency types
Currencies that are included in your Longview Tax system can be either functional currencies or reporting currencies.
Functional Currencies
A functional currency is the main operating currency of an entity. For example, an entity based in the United Kingdom most likely has a functional currency of UK Pound (GBP). Your Longview Tax system contains all functional currencies of your organization’s various entities.
You can view all functional currencies in your system on the Functional Currencies page of the Currencies editor. For more information, see Viewing currencies.
Reporting currencies
A reporting currency is used to report consolidated financial information for all currencies that your company uses.
If a currency is specified as a reporting currency, the following symbols are automatically created:
- A parent symbol for the reporting currency (T<reporting currency name>).
- A leaf functional currency symbol (<reporting currency name>).
- Translation currency leaf symbols for all other functional and reporting currencies in your Longview Tax system (<reporting currency name><source currency name>).
You can view the above symbols on the Functional and Reporting Currencies page of the Currencies editor. For more information, see Viewing currencies.
- Translation rate symbols for all other functional and reporting currencies in your Longview Tax system (T<reporting currency name><source currency name>).
You can view the above symbols on the Foreign Exchange Translation Rates page of the Currencies editor. For more information, see Viewing currencies.
For example, if you specify functional currencies CAD (Canadian Dollar) and USD (US Dollar), and the reporting currency EUR (Euro), the following symbols are automatically created:
Symbol Hierarchy | Symbol Name | Symbol Description | Naming Convention |
---|---|---|---|
