Maintaining other Tax Provision hierarchies

At times, you may need to modify hierarchies other than those in the ACCOUNTS, TIMEPER, ENTITIES, CURRENCY, and DETAILS dimensions. Tax Provision includes the following additional dimensions:

  • SEGMENTS

This dimension can be customized for your company’s specific needs. For more information, see “Maintaining Tax Provision segments
  • ELEMENTS

Includes symbols for the effective tax rate reconciliation, tax basis balance sheet, deferred tax rollforward, and other various calculations and processes. For more information, see “Maintaining Tax Provision elements
  • CONTROLS

Includes symbols used for system configuration purposes. For more information, see “Maintaining Tax Provision controls”

Maintaining Tax Provision segments

Tax Provision includes the Segments dimension, which can be customized to include additional symbols to suit your company’s needs.

Depending on your system’s configuration, the Segments dimension may have system- specific hierarchies. To add symbols to these hierarchies, see the “Creating New Symbols” section in the Longview Application Administrator Guide. If your system does not use system-specific hierarchies for Segments, the system default symbol is SUMMSEG.

Maintaining Tax Provision elements

Tax Provision uses the ELEMENTS dimension to store additional tax-specific hierarchies, including items such as:

  • categories for tax account rollforward
  • gross temporary difference rollforward columns
  • deferred tax rollforward columns
  • effective tax rate columns
  • return to provision columns

This dimension is a system dimension. If you need to make changes to this hierarchy, with the exception of locking beginning of year values, contact Longview. For information on locking beginning of year values, see the Tax Provision Implementer’s Guide.

Maintaining Tax Provision controls

Tax Provision includes the CONTROLS dimension, which contains the default symbol DIM7SET. You should not add any symbols manually to any of the Controls hierarchies. This dimension is a system dimension. If you need to make changes to this hierarchy, contact Longview.
