Using Input Tools

Input tools provide a mechanism for quickly entering data for a group of related cells. Depending on the type of data being entered, a specific tool may be more appropriate than others.

Using copy across tool

The copy across tool allows you to copy the value from one cell to all the related leaf cells to the right. The value will only be copied to leaf cells under the same root in the view.

To use copy across:

  1. Right-click on the leaf cell whose value you want to copy.
  2. Select Copy Across.

Note: Depending on the configuration of the app, this feature may not be available.

  1. The value in the source cell is copied to all related leaf cells to the right, except for any which are read-only in the view.

Using adjust values tool

The adjust values tool allows you to adjust the value in a cell and apply it to all related leaf cells to the right. Values will only be adjusted for leaf cells under the same root in the view.

To use adjust values:

  1. Right-click on the leaf cell whose value you want to adjust.
  2. Select Adjust Values. The Adjust Values dialog opens.

Note: Depending on the configuration of the app, this feature may not be available.

  3. The selected target row, starting column and value in the selected cell are displayed.
  4. Select the calculation basis:
    1. Select Adjust by % to adjust the value by a percentage.
    2. Select Adjust by value to adjust the value by an amount.
  5. Enter the adjustment value. Enter percentage adjustment as a whole number, example for 3% enter 3.
  6. Enter the number of decimals for rounding precision.

Note: Rounding precision only applies when the calculation basis is Adjust by %

  7. Click OK. The value in the source cell is adjusted along with all related leaf cells to the right, except for any which are read-only in the view.

Using quick spread tool

The quick spread tool allows you to quickly populate the leaf cells related to a selected parent cell. Quick spread supports using the existing trend in the target area or a trend from a related source area. The value to be spread can be manually entered or derived from the trend source using adjustments.

To use quick spread:

  1. Right-click on the parent cell whose related leaf cells you want to set using quick spread.
  2. Select Quick Spread. The Quick Spread dialog opens.

Note: Depending on the configuration of the app, this feature may not be available.

  3. The target row and target column are displayed.
  4. Select the pattern row. This defaults to the selected row.
  5. Select the pattern column. This defaults to the selected column. Selection is limited to columns with the same number of leaf symbols as the target.
  6. The source value is displayed. The source value is determined by the pattern row and pattern column selected.
  7. Specify the value using one of the following methods:
    • Enter a percentage adjustment and/or value adjustment. These adjustments are applied to the source value to derive the value to be spread.
    • Enter the value directly.

Note: Entering the value overrides the value derived by the adjustments. To return to using a derived value, change one of the adjustments.

  8. Click OK. The related leaf cell values are updated.

Note: Quick spread uses roll up behaviors as part of its calculation, thus it has unexpected results in some cases. For a parent symbol that does not receive roll up values from its children, the result will be to set all leaf cells to 0. For a carryforward account, the result will be to copy the value to all leaf cells.

Using import tool

The import tool allows the user to import data from a file into the underlying data area. The data imported will replace the existing values for the intersections specified. If the user chooses to clear the data prior to import, all other cells will be set to 0. If the user does not choose to clear the data prior to import, all cells not specified in the file will retain their current value.

To import data from a file:

  1. Click the Import icon.

Note: Depending on the configuration of the app, this feature may not be available.

  2. The import dialog appears.
  3. Fill in the following fields:
    FieldDescription

    File to import

Select the file to import (.txt or .csv). The default location is the data folder of the Longview instance.

    Field delimiter

Select the field delimiter used in the selected file.

    Clear view before import

Check this to clear all data prior to import. If checked the data in the file will replace all existing data. If not checked, only the data specified in the file will be updated.

  4. Click OK.
  5. If you selected to clear the data, you will receive a confirmation prompt.
  6. The data is imported. If any errors occur, you can review them by clicking the Error File button in the dialog.

Note: All data in the file preceding the error will be imported.

File format:

Symbol<delimiter>...Symbol<delimiter>Value

delimiter can be:

  • ,
  • ;
  • {

Example:

ACCOUNT,TIMEPERIOD,ENTITY,CURRENCY,1000
