Metadata Audit

The metadata audit app allows an administrator to query maintenance activity in the system. Queries can be executed for specific dates, specific users, and specific categories of maintenance activity. Metadata audit is found in the Monitoring folder of the Administration category.

Pre-requisites:

  • Metadata audit trail is enabled for the server
  • The user executing the app has authorization to at least one of
    • Metadata Audit Trail: Export – Security related
    • Metadata Audit Trail: Export – Non-Security related

A user with only Metadata Audit Trail: Export – Non-Security related authorization will get an error if trying to query the following categories:

  • Authorization
  • Group
  • Group Membership
  • User

A user with only Metadata Audit Trail: Export –Security related authorization will get an error if trying to query the following categories:

  • Attribute
  • Metadata Audit Reset
  • Role
  • Symbol

Selecting meta data audit query options

When the metadata audit app is selected the following form is displayed:

Complete the following fields, and click OK:

Date Range

Set the range of dates to query starting with the from date and ending with the to date. Be default the range selected is from January first of the current year to the current date.

Note:

  • The from date must be before the to date.
  • Blanking the from date to the to date is the same as selecting the same date for both.

User

Select the specific user for which to query maintenance activities. By default the query executes for all users.

Maintenance Categories

Select the maintenance categories you wish the query. You must select at least one category. Use the All Categories checkbox to quickly select all categories.

Reviewing metadata audit query results

The metadata audit query results display in a table with a toolbar to perform actions.

Standard toolbar actions are covered in the working with Longview tables section of the user guide.

The toolbar contains the following additional actions:

  1. Selections: Click to change the metadata audit query options.

The table includes the following columns:

Column

Notes

ID

The ID of the maintenance transaction. Some transactions record multiple activities, in these cases rows in the table will have the same ID.

Date

The date and time the maintenance activity took place.

User

The user who executed the maintenance activity.

IP Address

The IP address of the computer that the maintenance activity was initiated from.

Category

The category of maintenance that was performed.

Activity

A description of the activity that took place, such as creating a user or modifying the description of a symbol.
