System setup for source and target symbols

The Solutions Framework has 6 standard dimensions:

  • ACCOUNTS
  • TIMEPERIODS
  • ENTITIES
  • DATAVIEWS
  • SCENARIOS
  • CURRENCIES

If your Longview system has more than the 6 standard dimensions listed above, you will need to specify the source and target symbols for each additional dimension. The source and target symbols are used for various system calculations within the Longview Application.

This section will provide information on the following topics:

Updating the source and target attributes for custom dimensions

Source and target attributes are used to determine the source symbols where data is copied from and the target symbols where data is copied to for various system calculations within the Longview Application.

This is done through the following two system attributes:

  • ASCFD<Dimension>Source
  • ASCFD<Dimension>Target

These attributes specify the source and target symbols for the additional dimensions in order to define the location of the source Trial Balance data for the calculation and the target for the result of the calculation. By default, all additional dimensions will be set to <Dimension>_Total for both Source and Target.

For example, if you have an additional dimension called PRODUCTS, the source and target attributes would both be set to PRODUCTS_Total. This means that the data would be calculated for each product in the PRODUCTS_Total hierarchy.

Note: ASCFD<Dimension>Source and ASCFD<Dimension>Target can be set to copy Leaf to Leaf, Parent to Leaf or Parent to Parent. If both Source and Target are set to parent symbols, they must either be the same hierarchy structure or have the same number of leaf level symbols in both hierarchies.

Calculations that utilize the source and target attributes

The following calculations within the Solutions Framework make use of the source and target attributes for custom dimensions:

  • Cash flow
  • Equity pickup
  • Roll forward
  • Non-controlling Interest

Note: If there are any changes made to the ASCFD<Dimension>Source or ASCFD<Dimension>Target symbols, the corresponding event rules related to the calculations above would need to be updated accordingly.
