Allocation proof

Running the Allocation proof app allows you to view what the results of the allocation will look like before actually running the allocation.

For more information on setting up allocations, see the

  • Implementing Allocations” section of the Solutions Implementation Guide for Longview Close deployments, or
  • Longview Transfer Pricing Implementation Guide for Longview Transfer Pricing deployments.

Accessing allocation proof

The Allocation Proof app can be accessed from different areas of Longview depending on your implementation.

Accessing allocation proof from within Longview Close

Within Longview Close, you can access the allocation proof app either when managing allocations or running allocations.

When managing allocations:

  1. Select the Consolidate module.
  2. Select the Administration category.
  3. Expand Calculations.
  4. Click Manage Allocations. The Manage Allocation view appears.

Note: If the Manage Allocations app does not exist under the System folder, contact your system administrator for the location of the manage allocations app.

  5. Right click on a row in the Manage Allocations view and select Run Allocation Proof.
  6. Select the timeperiod you want to run the allocation proof on. The Allocation Proof app appears.

When running allocations:

  1. Select the Consolidate module.
  2. Select the Administration category.
  3. Expand Calculations.
  4. Click Run Allocations.
  5. Select a leaf or parent time period to run the allocations on.

Note: Only Period Activity Actual, Period Activity Budget or Period Activity Forecast time periods can be selected to run allocations on.

  6. The Run Allocation view appears.
  7. Right click on a row in the Run Allocations view and select Run Allocation Proof. The Allocation Proof app appears.

Running allocation proof

In the Allocation Proof view, the results of the allocations selected will be displayed along with the source data. Depending on the type of allocation selected, the rate or pattern may also be displayed.

Note: The orientation for all tabs in the proof app will always display the dimension with the largest number of symbols in the down direction. For the Source, Pattern or Rate tabs, and the dimension with the second largest number of symbols is in the across direction. Any other dimensions containing parent symbols will appear as available slices in the view. Any other dimension containing a single symbol will be a fixed dimension

Allocation pattern or rate tab

Depending on the allocation type you have selected, you may see a pattern or rate tab in the allocation proof app:

  • An allocation of type pattern will display a ‘Pattern’ tab
  • An allocation of type rate will display a ‘Rate’ tab
  • An allocation of type Direct Charge will not display a pattern or rate tab

The Pattern or Rate tab will display the intersection defined as the ‘Allocation Pattern’ for the selected allocation.

For more information on defining the pattern intersection, see Managing allocations.

Allocation source tab

The Source tab will display the intersection defined as the ‘Allocation Source’ for the selected allocation. Any source exceptions set on the allocation will be zero in the source intersection.

For more information on defining the source intersection, see Managing allocations.

Allocation results tab

The Results tab will display what the results of the allocation will be along with additional columns to explain how the results were achieved

Note: Any Source or Target exception intersections will be highlighted in gray. Any Source Offset value will be highlighted in Orange.

For pattern allocations

Allocations of type Pattern will display the following columns:

Pattern allocationsDescription

Effective Source

The effective source column displays the source data after it has been distributed to the target for calculation. For example, if you are allocating a single source value to many target symbols, the effective source will display the source value in all required target symbols.

The data in the effective source column will contain any allocation % and markup % set on the allocation. Any source exceptions set on the allocation will be zero in the effective source column.

Applied Pattern

The applied pattern column displays the pattern data after it has been distributed to the target for calculation.

Effective Pattern

The effective pattern column displays the actual pattern value that will be used to calculate the results. This is calculated using the Applied Pattern value as a percentage of the Total Pattern.

Results

The results column displays the result of the allocation. This can be calculated as effective source * effective pattern.

Please note that parent level values in the proof report are rolled up values for the pattern and result.

The effective source at the parent level is derived: as Results divided by Effective Pattern

For rate allocations

Allocations of type Rate will display the following columns:

Rate allocationsDescription

Effective Source

The effective source column displays the source data after it has been distributed to the target for calculation. For example, if you are allocating a single source value to many target symbols, the effective source will display the source value in all required target symbols.

The data in the effective source column will contain any allocation % and markup % set on the allocation. Any source exceptions set on the allocation will be zero in the effective source column.

Rate

The rate column displays the rate after it has been distributed to the target for calculation.

Results

The results column displays the result of the allocation. This can be calculated as effective source *rate.

Please note that parent level values in the proof report are rolled up values for the result.

The effective source at the parent level is derived as Results divided by Rate

For direct charge allocations

Allocations of type Direct Charge will display the following columns:

Direct charge allocationsDescription

Effective Source

The effective source column displays the source data after it has been distributed to the target for calculation.

The data in the effective source column will contain any allocation % and markup % set on the allocation. Any source exceptions set on the allocation will be zero in the effective source column.

Results

The results column displays the result of the allocation. For direct charge allocations, the result should equal the effective source.
