Managing entity translation

The Solutions Framework provides initial entity translation settings during currency setup. Entity translation is used to modify the entity translation settings. An entity translation setting defines the foreign exchange method to use for a specific combination of entity and currency.

Accessing entity translation settings

To access Entity Translation settings in Close or Plan:

  1. Select the Consolidate module.
  2. Select the Administration category.
  3. Expand Foreign Exchange.
  4. Click Entity Translation. The entity translation table appears.

Modifying entity translation settings

Entity translation allows you to update the entity translation settings for the system. In general entity translation settings are applied at a parent level, which applies the setting to all its descendent entities. For example, if Canadian dollars are configured to translate to US dollars, all entities whose functional currency is CAD are configured to translate to USD via the CAD_Entities parent symbol. This can be overridden at a lower level by adding a setting to the table, selecting a descendent entity and choosing a different translation method.

Adding an entity translation

  1. Click Add to add a new entity translation setting. Translation settings are not added to the database until you click Submit

Note: You can add a new entity translation that has similar settings by selecting an existing row and clicking duplicate.

  2. For each translation setting fill in the following fields:
    FieldDescription

    Entity

    Select the entity to set.

    Currency

    Select the target currency.

    Foreign Exchange Method

Select the foreign exchange translation method to use for translating the selected entity and its descendants to the target currency.

Deleting an entity translation

Delete an entity translation by selecting the row and clicking delete. The entity translation is not deleted from the database until you click Apply.

Modifying an entity translation

You can change the properties of an existing entity translation:

  1. Change the Entity by selecting a different value.

Note: This effectively deletes the translation setting for the previously selected entity and currency combination.

  2. Change the Currency by selecting a different value.

Note: This effectively deletes the translation setting for the previously selected currency.

  3. Change the Foreign Exchange Method by selecting a different value.

Note: You can use the TNONE method to exclude an entity from being translated to a specific currency. This is useful in cases where some entities do not need to be translated to a specific currency. Conversely, if a majority of entities do not need to be translated to a specific currency, you can use this method on a parent entity and set another method on the specific entities that do require translation.

No changes are applied until you click Submit.

Refreshing the entity translations

Click Refresh to refresh the list of entities.

If there are any unapplied changes, you will be prompted to apply or discard any changes that have not yet been applied.

  • Choose Apply Changes to apply any changes made, then refresh the list of entity translations. If there are any errors the refresh will not be performed.
  • Choose Discard Changes to discard any changes made, then refresh the list of entity translations.
  • Click Cancel to return to the table without refreshing the list of entity translations.

Submitting changes

To submit changes to the entity translation settings, click Submit. The settings in the table will replace the settings currently stored in the database.

Importing into the entity translations table

  1. Click Import to import from a .csv file into the entity translations table.
  2. Select the file to import. See .csv file example for import file format.
  3. You may select the option to replace existing rows
    OptionDescription

    Replace Existing Rows

If this option is checked, all rows in the table view will be cleared and replaced with the entity translations in the import file.

    Do Not Replace Existing Rows

If this option is unchecked, all entries in the import file will be appended to the table view.

Note: Any entity translations that exist multiple times in the same import file will be initially duplicated in the table view. Any entity translations that exist in the import file AND already exist in the table prior to import will be initially duplicated in the table view. Once you click Apply, the settings for the last instance of the duplicate entity translation will be used.

  4. Click OK. The file will be imported into the table.
  5. Click Submit to save the changes.

Where:

  • Entity is the name of the entity to set.
  • Currency is the name of the currency to set.
  • Foreign Exchange Method is the name of the foreign exchange translation method to use for the combination of Entity and Currency.
